Driving Sustainability in Logistics: Gregory Group’s Journey to Carbon Reduction and Industry Leadership

Project Overview

Gregory Group, a leader in logistics and transportation, engaged our team to fortify their market position on sustainability and drive meaningful change in reducing their carbon footprint. Our collaboration aimed to deepen the Group’s commitment to environmentally responsible practices, reinforce their leadership on sustainability, and demonstrate measurable progress in carbon reduction.

Challenges

The Gregory Group faced mounting pressure from stakeholders and customers to align with stringent sustainability standards, particularly as consumer and regulatory expectations for carbon transparency and reduction grew. The Group sought not only to quantify and reduce their carbon footprint but also to provide a tangible, customer-level reporting structure that illustrated greenhouse gas (GHG) impacts directly. Furthermore, Gregory Group needed to ensure their workforce was equipped with the knowledge and skills to support these initiatives, from frontline staff to executive leadership.

Our Approach

We devised a multi-faceted approach to assist Gregory Group in surpassing its sustainability goals:

  1. Carbon Footprint Measurement:
We conducted a comprehensive assessment of Gregory Group’s carbon footprint, scrutinising every aspect of their operations. This data formed the foundation for a robust sustainability strategy, allowing us to identify high-emission areas and prioritise actionable changes.
  2. Implementation of Emission Reduction Strategies:
With a clear picture of their emissions profile, we implemented targeted strategies to reduce the Group’s carbon footprint. This included optimising logistics routes, investing in energy-efficient technologies, and introducing eco-friendly practices across various operational stages.
  3. Renewable Fuels Pilot and Implementation:
As part of our commitment to sustainability, we piloted a range of renewable fuel solutions. We carefully evaluated each option to ensure compatibility with Gregory Group’s existing infrastructure, scaling up the most promising alternatives for full implementation. The renewable fuel shift marked a major milestone in Gregory Group’s journey towards carbon neutrality.
  4. Customer-Level GHG Reporting:
Recognising the importance of transparency, we developed a system that allowed Gregory Group to deliver detailed GHG reports at the customer level. This system enabled clients to understand their own carbon impact associated with logistics services, creating a value-add service that bolstered Gregory Group’s competitive edge in sustainability reporting.
  5. Carbon Literacy Training:
We conducted a comprehensive training programme in carbon literacy for the Gregory Group team. This initiative empowered employees to make informed, sustainable choices in their day-to-day roles and provided leaders with insights needed to drive the Group’s sustainability agenda. The training fostered a culture of sustainability throughout the organisation.
  6. SBTi Alignment:
As a final step, we aligned Gregory Group’s sustainability efforts with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), ensuring that their carbon reduction goals met internationally recognised standards. This alignment underscored the Group’s commitment to meaningful, science-based climate action and provided a clear pathway for future sustainability initiatives.

Results

Our partnership yielded remarkable results. Gregory Group achieved a 25% reduction in carbon intensity (measured as tCO2e per tonne-kilometre), reflecting a significant shift towards a more sustainable operational model. This reduction not only enhanced the Group’s environmental credibility but also created operational efficiencies, reduced costs, and strengthened customer relationships through transparent GHG reporting. Moreover, the renewable fuel programmes and carbon literacy training fostered a deeper sustainability culture within the organisation, aligning the Gregory Group with the latest standards in environmental responsibility.

Conclusion

This collaboration showcases the Gregory Group's commitment to a sustainable future. By strategically measuring, managing, and reducing their carbon footprint, the Gregory Group not only solidified its market leadership on sustainability but also set a new standard for the logistics industry. Through innovative practices and a commitment to carbon literacy, the Gregory Group has charted a clear course towards a greener, more resilient future.
